Cultural Companions Relaunched with ceol, craic and camaraderie in Cork City

There was a great atmosphere on Tuesday afternoon in Tory Top Library for the much-
anticipated relaunch of the Cultural Companions programme in Cork City. An Age &
Opportunity Arts initiative, delivered by Cork County Federation of Muintir na Tire, the
programme aims to foster connections and promote cultural engagement amongst older adults in Cork. Cllr Dan Boyle, deputising for the Lord Mayor of Cork, officially launched proceedings, with representatives from Muintir Cork, the HSE, Cork City Council Age Friendly, the Library Service and Ballyphehane CDP all gathered to celebrate the event, highlighting the collaborative efforts behind the programme. Cork Cultural Companions provides individuals aged 55 and over an opportunity to explore the rich cultural offerings of the city together. Whether its attending music concerts, art exhibitions, sporting fixtures, heritage tours, or theatrical performances, members can enjoy
the vibrant cultural scene while forging lasting connections with fellow enthusiasts.
The social afternoon at Tory Top Library in Ballyphehane offered entertainment and
camaraderie. Attendees were treated to performances by local artists, including poet and
storyteller Patrick Doyle, whose narratives transported everyone to new, old and other
worlds. Members of the Ballyphehane Pipe Band and musician Bernard Wallace provided great musical interludes, setting the perfect atmosphere for the occasion.

relaunch, stating "We are thrilled to be re-establishing Cultural Companions in Cork City. This programme celebrates community, creativity, and the joy of shared experiences.
