Press Release
EirGrid Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund Consultation
Online Community Consultation now open for submissions to help shape the
Community Benefit Fund Strategy for 2023-2026
07 th December 2022
SECAD Partnership CLG (SECAD) is inviting community/voluntary organisations, local stakeholders and local residents to participate in an online community consultation process to help shape a strategy for the delivery of the Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund. This fund is due to open for applications after March 2023.
The €2.4 million Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund has been established by EirGrid, in recognition of the support of local communities and the temporary disruption which may be caused within proximity of the cable line during the construction phase of the project. The fund will be delivered in three phases over the project period 2023-2026 and will focus on three core streams to include Community, Sustainability & Biodiversity.
This consultation phase of the strategy development is critical to ensuring that the fund maximises its impact in local communities and meets priorities as identified by the communities themselves. SECAD is keen to hear from those living or operating within a 2km radius of the onshore cable line, which will run between Knockraha substation and Claycastle, Youghal in East Cork.
The online survey, which includes a map of the proposed community benefit area, is available via SECAD’s website at www.secad.ie/what-we-do/celtic-interconnector-community-benefit-fund/. The survey will be open for submissions until Tuesday, 20 th December 2022.
For anyone wishing to learn more about the benefit fund strategy consultation, an online information session will be held on Tuesday, 13 th December at 7.00pm. Registration for this session can be made via the SECAD website at www.secad.ie/what-we-do/celtic-interconnector-community-benefit-fund/.

SECAD is a local development company based in Midleton, Co. Cork and has administered several million euro in funding projects and programmes over the last two decades.
Ryan Howard, CEO at SECAD said: “SECAD is delighted to be engaging with communities around the development of the Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund strategy. It is a fantastic opportunity for those living and operating within the area to have a say in how the fund is prioritised. We are encouraging as many people as possible to participate so that we can ensure that the fund supports community and voluntary organisations to meet the needs of the region”.
Michelle Walsh, Community Liaison Officer with EirGrid, said: “The response to SECAD’s call for participation in the strategy development has been very positive, reflecting communities 'desire to be involved in the shaping and development of their local area as part of the Celtic Interconnector project. EirGrid look forward to delivering these benefits to the Cork region.”
