Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund

Attached is a press release on the current consultation process to develop a strategy for the Community Benefit Fund relating to the EirGrid Celtic Interconnector.  This is most relevant to communities along the proposed cable line eg from Youghal to Knockraha – broadly following the N25 and a buffer zone of approximately 2km.

The current phase (an online survey) will remain open until Tuesday 20th December and we have an online information session on the evening of Tuesday 13th December.

Press Release

EirGrid Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund Consultation

Online Community Consultation now open for submissions to help shape the

Community Benefit Fund Strategy for 2023-2026

07 th December 2022

SECAD Partnership CLG (SECAD) is inviting community/voluntary organisations, local stakeholders and local residents to participate in an online community consultation process to help shape a strategy for the delivery of the Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund. This fund is due to open for applications after March 2023.

The €2.4 million Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund has been established by EirGrid, in recognition of the support of local communities and the temporary disruption which may be caused within proximity of the cable line during the construction phase of the project. The fund will be delivered in three phases over the project period 2023-2026 and will focus on three core streams to include Community, Sustainability & Biodiversity.

This consultation phase of the strategy development is critical to ensuring that the fund maximises its impact in local communities and meets priorities as identified by the communities themselves. SECAD is keen to hear from those living or operating within a 2km radius of the onshore cable line, which will run between Knockraha substation and Claycastle, Youghal in East Cork.

The online survey, which includes a map of the proposed community benefit area, is available via SECAD’s website at www.secad.ie/what-we-do/celtic-interconnector-community-benefit-fund/. The survey will be open for submissions until Tuesday, 20 th December 2022.

For anyone wishing to learn more about the benefit fund strategy consultation, an online information session will be held on Tuesday, 13 th December at 7.00pm. Registration for this session can be made via the SECAD website at www.secad.ie/what-we-do/celtic-interconnector-community-benefit-fund/.

SECAD Partnership CLG (SECAD) has been appointed by EirGrid as the grant making organisation to oversee the strategy development, management, administration, and delivery of the fund. SECAD is a local development company based in Midleton, Co. Cork and has administered several million euro in funding projects and programmes over the last two decades.

Ryan Howard, CEO at SECAD said: “SECAD is delighted to be engaging with communities around the development of the Celtic Interconnector Community Benefit Fund strategy. It is a fantastic opportunity for those living and operating within the area to have a say in how the fund is prioritised. We are encouraging as many people as possible to participate so that we can ensure that the fund supports community and voluntary organisations to meet the needs of the region”.

Michelle Walsh, Community Liaison Officer with EirGrid, said: “The response to SECAD’s call for participation in the strategy development has been very positive, reflecting communities 'desire to be involved in the shaping and development of their local area as part of the Celtic Interconnector project. EirGrid look forward to delivering these benefits to the Cork region.”

EirGrid is the nationally owned operator and developer of the electricity transmission grid in Ireland. The Celtic Interconnector is a key national infrastructural energy project and will be the first interconnector between Ireland and continental Europe.

For more information on the Community Benefit Fund, please contact Katie Kearns, SECAD Partnership CLG, tel. 021 461 3432, email kkearns@secad.ie.

Lights of Love Remembrance Tree Event - Fermoy

 Lights of Love Remembrance Tree

The Christmas season is a time to celebrate our blessings with family and friends, and also serves as a time to join together with them in remembering friends and loved ones who are sadly no longer with us.

Fermoy Community Health Project & Fermoy Community Resource Centre in association with the Fermoy Committee of Cork Mental Health cordially invite you to attend the 'Lights of Love - Remembrance Tree' event, at which you may, if you wish, sponsor a light to remember your loved one by making a €5 donation.  For your donation, you will receive a Lights of Love pack which has our Lights of Love Remembrance card – this card can be posted to a family member to let them know a light is shining on the tree, also included is a Christmas keepsake and a Little Bag of Hope.

On the night, you can also write the name of your loved ones name into the 2022 memory frame.

This community event takes place on Sunday 4st December from 5 - 6pm in the Fermoy Resource Centre, 42 McCurtain Street.  Refreshments will be served.  All are welcome to attend.
