COVID-19 Club Small Grant Scheme

In June 2020 the Government approved an investment programme of up to €70 million to support the sports sector.  As part of the fund Sport Ireland (SI) announced a funding scheme designed to support clubs/groups that do not have the finances to implement COVID-19 related hygiene and social distancing protocols. A fund of €5 million has been allocated to support clubs/groups across the Country. Cork currently has over two thousand clubs and many more community groups with sport and physical activity central to their core function. Please note the maximum amount of funding available per club is €1,500.

Maurice O Sullivan the Sports and Marketing Manager with CSP is leading the coordination of the scheme as each LSP is responsible for administering the fund at a local level. A panel will be created to review and shortlist all applications received before we submit for final approval to SI. SI are uncertain as to the level of funding that will be required overall, however I want to ensure that all funding that is needed for clubs in Cork is submitted. The closing date for receipt of applications is 17:00 on Friday 4th September. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.  Full details of the grant are available on the CSP website:

ILMI Cork City and County Platform: An Online Space for Disabled Adults

ILMI are working with disabled activists in Cork City and County to develop an online discussion space This online City and Country platform will be a shared online space for disabled adults that will include information on the various supports and services available in your local community, aiming to increase positive mental health and wellbeing and create more community connections. This online platform for Cork City and County replicates and approach used by ILMI in a number of other counties over the course of 2020.

These online spaces have proven invaluable for many disabled people to counter the challenge of physical isolation caused by Covid-19, by creating a shared social space for disabled people. County platforms are a mixture of social spaces, peer support, collective discussions on issues, local political lobbying strategies and inputs from local mainstream services which are available for disabled people.

The first ILMI Cork City and County platform will take place on Thursday the 17th September at 3pm. For more information email damienwalshe@ilmi.ie

European Natura 2000 Award

Natura 2000 Award

The European Commission is proud to announce the 27 finalists for the 2020 European Natura 2000 Award. You can discover the finalists on the Award website. The 79 applications received for this edition of the Award have been through a gruelling evaluation to select the 27 finalists. Reaching the shortlist is therefore a significant result in itself and there are three Irish projects that made the shortlist: The Living Bog Life Project; the Aran Islands EIP & The Rock-a-bill Tern Conservation Project.

The finalist applications highlight the many different achievements of those involved in Natura 2000. They include applications from 14 EU Member States and the United Kingdom, submitted by local and international NGOs, universities, municipalities, national administrations, businesses …. And they cover an array of issues from both marine and terrestrial Natura 2000 sites. The public vote for your favourite Natura 2000 Award finalist is also now open. You have until midnight on the 15 of September 2020 to vote for the finalist that you think deserves special recognition: the application which receives the most votes will be awarded the coveted European Citizens’ Award.

The winners of the five category Awards – Conservation, Socio-Economic Benefits, Communication, Reconciling Interests/Perceptions, and Cross-Border Cooperation and Networking – and the Citizens’ Award will be announced at the Award Ceremony in Brussels, tentatively scheduled for 14 October 2020.

Reminder to download the COVID Tracker App

COVID Tracker Ireland for Android

Screenshot ImageScreenshot ImageScreenshot ImageScreenshot Image

COVID Tracker is a free app for your mobile phone. It will help us to

protect each other and slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19)

in Ireland.

COVID-19 is here. The HSE and the Government of Ireland is asking everyone to help tackle coronavirus by downloading and using the COVID Tracker app every day.

Using the app will

give us a better picture of the spread of the virus

help carry out contact tracing

link you to excellent HSE health advice if you need it

keep you updated with notifications you can trust

How the Covid Tracker app helps us

Daily health check-in

The Covid Tracker app allows you to check-in every day, to let us know if you have any cold, flu or coronavirus symptoms, or if you’re feeling well.

This will help us map the spread of the virus in Ireland. Understanding how the virus is affecting the country will help us to manage and respond to this pandemic.

Contact tracing

The app uses your phone’s technology to make a record of when you are close to other app users. If an app user tests positive for COVID-19, the HSE can ask them for the records on the app. This will help us to contact other people who might have been affected, and give them the advice and help they need.

Your data and privacy

The COVID Tracker app will not:

publicly identify anyone with COVID-19

make personal data available to the HSE without your direct consent

use your data for any reason other than contact tracing and anonymously reporting illness levels

Be part of this national effort

Use this app for 1 minute a day to make an important contribution to the fight against coronavirus. Protect yourself, your family, your community and the most vulnerable in society. Encourage everyone you know to download and use the COVID Tracker app where possible.

Protection from Coronavirus. It’s in our hands.

Mallow and Heritage Week 2020

News and Updates | Cork County

For Heritage Week 2020 Mallow Field Club will publish a written version of its guided historical Mallow Town Walk - the first half on Thursday, 13th August and the second half on Thursday, 20th August - in two local newspapers: the Mallow Star and the Corkman. Those who wish can then self-guide through the fascinating and historic town of Mallow. For health and safety reasons due to Covid 19 restrictions, Mallow Field Club cannot undertake the popular, live, guided walks of last year’s Heritage Week but hopefully the detail in the papers will be of interest to many with an interest in the history and heritage of the Crossroads of Munster.
