RISE Community Fund Opens Grant Applications in Carrigaline and surrounding townlands

RISE Community Fund Opens Grant Applications in Carrigaline and surrounding townlands

Grants supported by National Broadband Ireland will empower the digital strategies of businesses, community groups and social enterprises

24th March 2022: The RISE Community Fund supported by National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the National Broadband Plan (NBP), has today announced that applications for its grants to small businesses, community groups and social enterprises are now open in Carrigaline and surrounding townlands including Ballinvarrig, Coolmore, Knocknamanagh, Raheens and Ringaskiddy to name a few.

Established by NBI Chairman and technology entrepreneur, David McCourt, RISE is providing monthly grants across the country to give an immediate cash injection into local communities seeking to boost their digital ecosystems.

Following the route of NBI’s deployment of its new high-speed fibre broadband network, Carrigaline is the first location to benefit from the RISE Community Fund. Five grants of €1000 will be available to successful applicants.

David McCourt, founder of RISE and Chairman of NBI, commented: “The RISE Community Fund supported by NBI is calling on small businesses, community groups and social enterprises in Carrigaline and the surrounding areas to submit their plans to use technology in creative and entrepreneurial ways to deliver maximum impact. We know there are some amazing people doing extraordinary things to bring value to their local community in Carrigaline, and we’re hoping to accelerate and scale their ambitions with the support of these grants.”

Small businesses, community groups and social enterprises with plans to use technology to scale their operations and bring tangible benefits to their local communities are encouraged to visit www.riseglobalfoundation.com for entry forms and guidelines. A full list of the townlands surrounding Carrigaline that are eligible to apply for grants are available at the RISE website.

Peter Hendrick, CEO of NBI, added: “At NBI, we’re on a mission to connect over 1.1 million people in rural Ireland who don’t have access to high-speed broadband to a world-class, superfast network. Whilst connectivity is a vital utility and a critical first step, it alone can’t solve all of the challenges for businesses, community groups and social enterprises trying to expand the positive impact they’re able to have - both to the local community, and to the wider economy. That’s why we’re incredibly excited to engage local communities with the RISE Community Fund and celebrate innovative uses of technology here in Carrigaline.”

Springback: A Playback theatre performance

Springback: A Playback theatre performance

Playback theatre is a form of improvisation where people in the audience share personal stories that are then "played back" by a team of actors and musicians. The stories can be about the everyday moments of our lives that give us meaning. We aim to create a welcoming space where everyone is heard and community unfolds.

For this performance, we will be exploring the theme of "Spring back" - as we begin to emerge from Covid restrictions, and the winter season, what is returning, what are we leaving behind and what have we learned? Come explore these questions through theatre and personal storytelling with us.

Admission to the workshop is via donation to the Irish Refugee Council. Suggested donation is €10.00, or what you can give. The Irish Refugee Council are supporting those fleeing conflict in the Ukraine, as well as many others whose homes are currently not a safe place.

Location: Crawford College of Art and Design, Sherman Crawford Street, Cork City
