Just to let you know that now is a really great time to start thinking about your participation in the
Cork’s favourite traditional family Panto is back. Oh yes, it is! Be our guest for a tale as old as pantomime with Beauty and the Beast.
In a little town (somewhere in Cork, like!), the beautiful Belle dreams of so much more than her simple life. When she discovers a castle (think Blarney or Blackrock) frozen in time under the spell of an enchanted rose and ruled over by a terrible Beast who was once a handsome prince, she must learn to look beyond his appearance if love is to save the day.
With talking teapots, singing candlesticks and clever clocks, this classic tale will delight a whole new generation. Featuring the usual zany gang bringing you non-stop Panto fun, it is directed by the zaniest of them all, Catherine Mahon Buckley.

The 2023 Gala Screening Event for Cork Young Filmmakers was recently held at Cork County Hall. Hosted by Cork Young Filmmakers and Cork Film Centre with the support of Cork County Council and SECAD, the highly anticipated event celebrated a year long journey of filmmaking with young people from County Cork.
The Gala event focused on the premiere screening of new work by young filmmakers from throughout the county during the Summer of 2023. The short films were created at workshops in Bandon, Cobh, Macroom, Mallow, and Midleton and were premiered at this event which takes place annually at the spectacular 'Vertigo' at Cork County Hall.
This special screening event celebrates the creativity of young people from County Cork who made these short films as part of the Cork Young Filmmakers countywide Youth Arts Programme, generously supported by Cork County Council, SECAD, CETB and Creative Ireland.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of renowned filmmaker and visual artist, Claire Murphy, who is based in Cork. An alumna of NCAD, Claire graduated with a degree in Fine Art Painting in 2009 and later pursued an acclaimed master's degree in cinematography at Napier University Edinburgh in 2017. Claire’s exceptional work as a cinematographer and filmmaker has earned her recognition at festivals worldwide. One of her outstanding films, "To Be What We Are," was screened during the Gala.
The programmes were planned and coordinated by Cork Film Centre and funded in the main by Cork County Council and the Arts Council with support from SECAD, Cork ETB, Creative Ireland and CLCYP, (Cork Local Creative Youth Partnership) and supported also by Cork County Council’s Community Fund.

Cork County Council’s Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) designed to provide targeted funding for community groups through a competitive application process and deliver community climate action.
In partnership with Cork County Council, the Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) aims to support and empower communities in shaping and building low carbon, sustainable communities which will contribute to national climate and energy targets. The programme is divided into two separate strands, Strand 1 and Strand 1a.
Strand 1 of the CCAP will provide funding to community organisations within Cork County to deliver a local climate action project/initiative. Eligible community organisations can apply for up to 100% funding across three categories:
Small scale projects: less than €20,000 (10% of funding)
Medium scale projects: €20,000 to €50,000 (40% of funding)
Large scale projects: €51,000 to €100,000 (50% of funding)
Proposed projects should address one or more of the following five themes under home/energy, travel, food and waste, shopping and recycling, and local climate and environmental action.
Additionally, under Strand 1a of the CCAP, community organisations can propose a cross-border project in partnership with organisations in Northern Ireland. These projects must address the same five themes as Strand 1 and must have a clear North/South basis, with a cross-border partnership approach and impact.
The Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) forms an important aspect of Cork County Council’s approach to local community climate action and aims to support the objectives and actions of the Council’s draft Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Valerie O’Sullivan, echoed the sentiments adding, “Climate action is a key strategic priority for Cork County Council, and the launch of the Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) is an important and positive step in delivering our key objectives. In combination with the recent publication of our draft Climate Action Plan 2024-2029, the CCAP signifies a strong example of Cork County Council’s commitment to supporting community climate action and enabling our transition to a low carbon and climate resilient County. Cork County Council has been allocated €1.2 million euro by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications to deliver the CCAP, and I hope that our local community groups consider making an application in advance of the deadline”.
Applications for Strand 1 and Strand 1a of the Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) open on Wednesday 13th December 2023 for a period of 12 weeks, with a closing date of Wednesday 6th March 2024.
