The AGM commenced with the Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Frank O’Flynn opening the event and highlighting the extraordinary leadership of the outgoing Chair, Liz Maddox. Mayor of the County, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn lauded Liz Maddox for her instrumental role in guiding the Older People’s Council through challenging times, particularly during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A presentation was made to Liz Maddox by the Mayor of the County, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn and the Chair of the Cork County Council Age Friendly Alliance, Niall Healy, as a token of appreciation for her unwavering dedication and commitment.

Together at the Lodge- East Corks First Mental Health and Wellness Day Sunday October 1st

EAST CORK MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING COMMUNITY

GREEN RIBBON EVENT

Midleton Lodge Park Grounds (Cork County Council)

Together at the Lodge

1 st October 2023

1PM-5PM

Dear Community Service,

Please help us to spread the word about Together at the Lodge, East Corks first Mental Health and Wellness Day. Following the success of a similar event in North Cork in 2022, we believe that expanding on the key messages of hope and recovery while understanding what services are available across the county will be important on the day. The feedback last year indicated that the general public were very happy with the diverse services and music available, which led to a very happy and positive atmosphere. Together at the Lodge is a collaboration between HSE Mental Health (suicide prevention office), Cork County Council, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Healthy Ireland, Cork North Community Work Department, Midleton and Area Chamber of Commerce, Midleton & East Cork Social Prescribing and services within the community. We are encouraging all local services to promote the concept of mental health and wellbeing and highlight the varied cradle to grave services and supports offered in the community. We know in the East Cork area that there are a wide variety of wonderful services available, and this event is a great opportunity to showcase what’s on offer. On the day we envisage a wide diverse programme of entertainment, alongside recreational activities, workshops, and information spaces provided through the community groups and organisations attending the event. This event will balance that sense of fun with connection and understanding, whilst raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing. The timing of this event will link with other National and local mental health /wellbeing projects and campaigns being rolled out over the months of September and October 2023. Together at the Lodge, East Corks first Mental Health and Wellness Day will be a celebration, whilst also highlighting the importance of minding our mental health and wellbeing through bringing the community together. Please help us to spread the word about Together at the Lodge by circulating the information widely across East Cork.

THANK YOU.

A group of people in a childrens park

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn has officially opened Bandon’s new state of the art playground. A vibrant new family-oriented space for the community, Bandon Play Park includes embankment slides, a wheelchair accessible roundabout and sensory play panels. It is within walking distance of the town centre via the Graham Norton Bandon River Walkway and is adjacent to the existing skate park.

The project was brought to fruition thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Bandon Playground Group CLG, along with support from Cork County Council’s West Cork LCDC/LAG and Avondhu Blackwater Partnership CLG.

With a total cost of €264,985 including LEADER funding of €105,869, the project has been a testament to community spirit and collaboration. In addition to LEADER funding, the Bandon Playground Group CLG received support from the Council’s Bandon Kinsale Municipal District, as well as securing philanthropic support of €100,000 from the Tomar Trust, further highlighting the widespread community backing for the new community playground.

This site was generously donated by Cork Marts to the Bandon Playground Group CLG and the people of Bandon and its surrounding hinterland.Speaking at the opening, Mayor O’Flynn commented

The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn, has welcomed the announcement of the county’s latest road improvement scheme, following the appointment of Sorensen Civil Engineering to carry out the N73 Annakisha Road Improvement Scheme.

The N73 is a popular tourist route between the East and Southwest which also provides access to the N8/M8 to Dublin via Mitchelstown. The scheme, covering a 3.5km section of the N73 National Secondary Route, represents a vital step in improving connectivity and safety along this key route.

Works will also include realignment of a section of the N73 between Cooldurragha and Powerstown (approximately 7km east of Mallow), realignment of five local road junctions, two combined pedestrian/cycle tracks, construction of two proposed bridges, two underpasses and two culverts, fencing, drainage, landscaping and environmental mitigation.
