The Cork and Kerry Inter-Agency Major Emergency Management Region South is asking everyone to be ‘winter ready’ this year. ‘Be Winter Ready’ is a co-ordinated campaign involving statutory agencies that aims to raise public awareness about the challenges that winter can present and encourages members of the public to make preparations in advance of the usual seasonal issues.
An Garda Síochána continue to highlight the importance of road safety
during winter weather conditions.
Cork City and Cork County Fire Services are asking householders to check
that their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working, and if they’re not
already installed, to get them installed.
Cork City Council and Cork County Council provide information on the
salting routes which are treated in the event of severe weather. For Cork
County routes vist our Severe Weather
Information page or for Cork City routes visit Cork City
Council's website.
Both local authorities also provide updates on conditions during Met Éireann weather alerts. Up to date
information on road closures and weather warnings in your area are available by
signing up to the City or County Alert Systems.
HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare is encouraging the public to look
after their health this winter. Protect yourself, your family, and the health
service by ensuring you get your winter vaccinations. Visit the HSE website for details on how to get your
vaccines.
The South/South West Hospital Group is asking members of the public to
consider using Injury Units (including Mercy Injury Unit, St Mary’s Health
Campus, Gurranabraher, Mallow Injury Unit and Bantry Injury Unit) when
appropriate instead of presenting to Emergency Departments.
Further useful information on getting yourself and your household winter
ready is available at the Be Winter Ready
website.
