Boundary Extension - Muintir has Serious Concerns.

Proposed area for City Expansion 

The board of Cork County Federation Muintir na Tire expressed serious concerns about the McKinnon report which recommends that the boundary of Cork City Council be extended to include Ballincollig, Carrigrohane, Blarney, Glanmire, Carrigtwohil and Cork Airport.

Muintir na Tire  suggest that serious questions need to be answered about the report.
These include:
What is the legal status of the report  given that a there is already in place a Statutory report (Smiddy Report) since 2015?

Why did they not see that the implementation of this large scale Boundary extension has the potential to create a mortally weakened County which in turn will hit our Town and village communities who have immense pride and attachment to their areas?

Why is McKinnon report is vague on many issues including the exact form the proposed city boundary will take?

Why  is it  not specific on who will finally determine where the proposed city boundary will be?

Will the natural rural townlands of  the areas suggested be cut off and isolated from their development?

How can this report not be seen as an attack on Rural Cork if it will have a severe impact on development in rural communities?

Muintir na Tire in Cork will be organising Town and Village Hall Meetings in conjunction with local community groups to get answers to some of these and other questions about this report.
