Fermoy
Friendship week returns again for an action packed week from 16th to
21st April. As in previous years,
the overall aim is to promote all things that
encourage Friendship within the community.
Again,
the ‘Random
Acts of Kindness Initiative’ will run in primary schools in Fermoy – to
encourage everyone in the school community to be more conscious about
performing Random Act of Kindnesses. Also
running again will be promoting a similar theme in the local preschool groups
known as Theme of Week - Friendship & Kindness Fun Reading Initiative"
– books will be provided with a friendship theme - last year these were a big
hit with the kids.
The
week itself kicks off on Monday 16th with a ‘Meet and Mingle Walk’
- this is hosted by the Walkie Talkie walking group and members of the
community are invited to join them on one of their weekly walks; meeting at
10.30am at the Resource Centre. Refreshments will be served after the walk.
The
highlight of the week will be the Friendship Variety Show, which will be held
at the Palace theatre, Fermoy Youth Centre, 7.30pm – Tickets only €5. The night will showcase a broad spectrum of
local talent and an entertaining night is promised for all.
Other
events taking place over the course of the week include; Traveller Culture Awareness
training which will be hosted by the Travellers of North Cork. Singing for the Brain will take place on
Wednesday 18th April at the HSE Saint Francis Day Centre, Rathealy Road
from 2.30 – 4pm; this will mark their first birthday; so all are welcome to
come and help them celebrate (no singing experience necessary).
Many
local businesses will be making a special effort to make the week a special
event. Those that take part will receive
a Friendship Logo Window sticker to display at their premises. Many businesses will sell the Friendship
button badges for €2 each. If you have
an idea just simply upload it onto the Fermoy Friendship Week Facebook
page.
On
Friday 20th April from 10.30 - 12.30 members of the Fermoy Active
Retirement Group will be giving an Introduction
to the game of Indoor Kurling. This event will take place in the
dance hall at the Youth Centre, Ashe Quay.
All are welcome to come along and try their hand at this wonderful new
leisure activity.
The
final event of the week will be a treat
for all members of the public as our local Emergency Response Services
will be hosting a Meet & Greet in the Old Mart Car Park from 10am – 1.pm. There will be lots to see and do on the
morning; so be sure to come along.

week please check the wonderful display in the Synergy Credit Union window and
