Heritage Council Community Grant Scheme 2018- Allocations for Projects in Cork

The Heritage Council has recently announced its Community Heritage Grant offers for 2018 and the County of Cork has fared well. A total of €30,490 has been made available for 8 projects and although down on the figure of €42,792 granted in 2017, it covers a great range of different projects and events. 4 projects in Cork City are also to receive funding under the Scheme to the sum of €15,900. In total 369 applications were received by the Heritage Council and of the circa €700,000 made available for the scheme, there were 158 successful applications.Projects successful under the scheme in Cork County this year are wide ranging, covering many aspects of heritage.
 
€2,000 has been allocated to Life FM for a radio documentary on Remarkable Women to be aired during Heritage Week and €1,990 was received from the Killeagh Inch Historical Group for the erection of historical information signage within the village.

The Ellen Hutchins Festival in West Cork received €3,000 for increasing awareness of lichens and the Bere Island Projects Group received €1,400 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Handover of the Treaty Port to the Irish Government. Fermoy Forum received €6,000 for a Memory Bank project and BirdWatch Ireland received€5000 for a conservation management plan in respect of Kilcolman Nature Reserve. Also successful was Buttevant Heritage Group receiving €3,500 for a website as well as Ballyhoura Development who received €7,600 for promoting knowledge of bats in the area.

All in all, it is very positive to have seen a variety of successful grants in the County of Cork and every success to each project.
