Mallow Cultural Companions: A Social Network for Older People

Mallow Cultural Companions: A Social Network for Older People

On Wednesday 12th October at 2pm a social and informational event is taking place in Mallow Library that aims to kickstart a new Cultural Companions hub for the local Mallow community. Cultural Companions is an Age and Opportunity Initiative that brings together like-minded people that meet up regularly to go out together as a small group. Aimed at the 50+ age group this event is free and open to all.

The afternoon will feature live performances of music and poetry from local artists

along with lots of information on Cultural Companions; how it works and how to get involved. If you enjoy going to the movies, plays, comedy, live music, art exhibitions and so on and you would get out to enjoy more events if you had company to go with, then Cultural Companions is for you.

Tara O’Donoghue, Coordinator of Cork Cultural Companions, says “There’s a great selection of social events going on in and around Mallow and North Cork and we want everyone to share the same opportunities to get out and enjoy them. Cultural

Companions are developing this local hub in Mallow to try to help older people to connect and meet up to attend events together locally. The programme is free and without obligation, so you can be as involved as much or as little as you like. When you become a member you’ll get regular updates on events local to you and you will be put in contact with other people who share your interests and would also enjoy
company to attend events.”

Cultural Companions is an Age & Opportunity Arts Initiative, supported by Creative Ireland, Cork City and County Councils, The Community Work Department Cork North Cork & Kerry Community Healthcare and Healthy Ireland. The programme is delivered by Cork County Federation of Muintir na Tire. Membership is free.
