Event: Illustrated Talk: General Liam Tobin and the Intelligence War in Ireland 1919-1921

Additional Information: On Wednesday, January 23rd a plaque to Major General Liam Tobin, Director of Intelligence for General Michael Collins during the 1919-1921 War of Independence, will be unveiled at Glenahulla N.S. In conjunction with this event, Dr. Gabriel Doherty, UCC, will present a lecture to Mitchelstown Heritage Society on Liam Tobin and the intelligence war in Ireland from 1919-1921 to coincide with the Centenary of the sitting of the First Dail. Tobin, who's father was from Cloghleafin, Mitchelstown, served as Deputy Director of Intelligence during the War of Independence. a member of the '12 Apolostles', this unit was responsible for the assassination of British agents and officials in Ireland. He served on Collins staff during the Treaty negotiations. Tobin was Chief Pall Bearer at Collins funeral. The lecture to Mitchelstown Heritage Society will be given on Wednesday, 23rd January in the Town Hall at Thomas Street at 8pm. All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served afterwards. a small cover charge applies, this is €5 for Heritage Society members and €7 for the public.
