Writers Block Programme - Outline/ Proposal
About:
Writers Block 2026/2027: In 2026 and 2027 the Writers Block programme instigated by Cork
County Council Arts and Library Service will see nine writers work across Cork county
deliver creative writing opportunities in their communities. The writer for the East Cork
Municipal District is Arnold Thomas Fanning, based in Midleton.
The Course:
Arnold will deliver a five-week course of workshops in Life Writing, in which through
readings, discussions, writing prompts, and gentle feedback participants will gain the skills
and confidence to tell their own stories in writing. Life Writing is amongst the most
rewarding, expressive, challenging, and fulfilling forms of writing, and in this course
participants will be guided thematically to write their own stories. Suitable for beginners, this
workshop series will allow participants to build up a body of their own Life Writing work.
It is envisaged that a panel discussion and reading related to the Writers Block programme
series will conclude this project. The panel discussion will be a presentation on Creative
Writing, Well Being, and the Writers Block programme with myself, the course facilitator,
and Danielle Sheehy from SECAD as well as volunteer participants from the workshops, in a
public event in Midleton Library.
Workshop Venue:
Cork County Council | The Lodge, Youghal Road, Midleton, Co. Cork, P25 TF98
