Kevin McCormack, Project Lead answers some of the more frequently asked questions about The Hub – Fermoy, which is supported by Cork Mental Health Foundation.
Q: What is it?
A: THE HUB is a social space for adults, both men and women, aged 18yrs and over.
Q: What will be happening there?
A: In a nutshell: Tea, coffee, chats, music, board games, card games, courses, workshops, wellbeing talks.
Q: Will it be open every day?
A: No. The Hub will initially operate as a social space from 7-9pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Over time, and once the dust settles, there will be evening courses and morning courses rolled out for those who are interested. These courses will include Mindfulness and Meditation sessions and Creative Writing workshops as well as other practices proven to aid good self-care and expression.
Q: Who's it for?
A: THE HUB is for all adults who wish to take the best possible care of their mental health, and is especially for those who find it a struggle to do so.
Q: So, is it just for people who are clients within the Mental Health Services?
A: Absolutely not. All are welcome - the ethos of The Hub - Fermoy is to be proactive in promoting good self-care when it comes to mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. You do not need to be a service user to join our social evenings. We encourage all adults with an interest in self-care to attend, whether you have a clinical diagnosis or not.
Q: Will there be therapy on offer?
A: The Hub - Fermoy is strictly a social space. It is not a therapeutic service, nor is it a crisis cafe. The emphasis is solely on socialising and proactively minding yourself. The ethos of The Hub is to be proactive in supporting people through socialisation - by offering support and acceptance in a non-judgemental setting, and to help develop resilience and self-acceptance through providing a welcoming space for those who need it.
Q: Can I volunteer to help out?
