Tell You Story Workshop - Fermoy Friendship Week 2024

Hello members of Fermoy Community Network

Following on from our Fermoy Friendship Week Planning meeting last week, I am attaching information about a new workshop that we will be running as part of this years calendar of events.

We are looking for 8 young people (secondary school age) and 8 older people to participate in this intergenerational story exchange workshop, which will be facilitated by Narrative 4.

The Story Exchange is an evidence-based methodology, which develops empathy, compassion and aids integration and group cohesion. Getting people to share stories in a safe facilitated manner breaks down barriers, builds trust and reinforces the idea that they are not alone. Through circle-work participants will develop deep listening skills, public speaking / storytelling skills and social and emotional learning skills. During this half day workshop, individuals are paired and encouraged to share stories from their lives with each other. The key aspect of the exchange is that each person retells their partner's story in the first person, as if it were their own. This immersive storytelling technique allows participants to step into someone else’s shoes, promoting deep emotional insight and bridging divides across differences in background, perspective, or experience. The Story Exchange creates a powerful space for mutual understanding and helps build stronger, more empathetic communities.
So, if you or a member of your group is interested in participating, please contact Jacinta McCormack on 085 8742320 on or before 17th October.
Looking forward to hearing from you,

All the best
Jacinta
