The Pride in Our Community 2024Competition Awards were held with great enthusiasm at the Kingsley Hotel last night, bringing together a diverse array of groups from Cork County and City. This grand event is organized by the Cork County Federation of Muintir na Tire in partnership with Cork County and City Councils.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Mayor of County Cork Cllr. Joe Carroll, Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Dan Boyle, President of Cork County Muintir na Tire Seamus Forde, and representatives of Muintir na Tire Community groups from various corners of the city and county.

Mayor of County Cork Cllr. Joe Carroll commended all the great projects on view, and he praised all the groups involved for their fantastic work and commitment to their localities. He said Cork County Council are committed to supporting this competition as they had been since it started seventeen years ago.

This year, the judging panel from Cork County Council and Muintir na Tire was highly impressed by the exceptionally high standard of entries. Ms. Yvonne Cahalane, Chair of the organizing committee, underscored that the competition serves the vital purpose of raising local awareness about the environment and promoting litter-free communities. She noted that this competition is open to all voluntary groups in County Cork and now, in Cork City as well.

President of Cork County Muintir na Tire, Mr Seamus Forde, eloquently emphasized the vital connection between our surroundings and our quality of life. He praised the beauty of Cork City and County, the outstanding projects that contribute to it, drawing visitors from near and far. Mr. Forde expressed gratitude to both Councils for their unwavering support in realizing these projects, and he praised the work of Cork County Federation Muintirn a Tire as an example to other counties to follow.

The Mayor of County Cork Cllr. Joe Carroll congratulated Carrigaline Tidy Towns as the "Pride of County Cork " winners and said this underscores the outstanding efforts and dedication of this community group in making their community and Cork County a better place for all. Their project this year was a beautiful sculpture which, represents the flour milling industry in Carrigaline, dating back to 1760. There were two mills in operation in Carrigaline, creatively named locally as the Upper and Lower Mills. The Mills were powered from the Kilmoney River. The Mills closed in 1922.  Cllr. Carroll said the entire community can be proud of their Tidy Towns Group achievements.
