Survey: “Supporting Just Transition and Coexistence in Ireland’s Offshore Renewable Energy Future”

I am a Research Fellow with the MaREI Centre, Sustainability Institute in University College Cork (UCC) coordinating a Marine Institute funded project which aims at strengthening communities’ engagement in Maritime Spatial Planning decision making, focusing on the South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP) for Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE).

We are seeking individuals from Ireland’s south coast communities that might economically or otherwise be affected by and/or affect ORE developments, to participate in our survey, workshops, and/or a semi-structured interview to capture local socio-economic insights and anticipated lived experiences from coexisting with possible future ORE projects.

This research project is an opportunity to have your voice heard and to help us articulate recommendations to Irish and EU policy makers which may shape the delivery of ORE in your community. In capturing qualitative data on community perspectives, local voices are elevated, developing a community of practice which brings about more equitable and just Maritime Spatial Planning policy.
For more information about the project and its aims please read the attached Information Sheet

If you are interested in participating in the survey, please follow the link here.

Please feel free to share this email with other interested community members!

If you are also interested in participating in a follow-up online semi-structured interview and/or an in person workshop (to be organised in March 2026 at your area), please contact us at zkyriazi@ucc.ie and dkrug@ucc.ie .
