Giy news from Shona

May 2015

Sow Impressed...

Welcome to the May edition of HARVEST! As months go- this one is shaping up to be one of our busiest yet! Hopefully we've got something for everyone to get involved with in some way.

But firstly- we know as GIY local champions that you are all change-makers in your own communities. You believed in the idea of GIY and made it happen with a group of like-minded people. Did you know that GIY groups are one of many ways you can improve your environment and create a harmonious and nurturing world?

For some time GIY has been part of a larger movement of social improvement called ChangeX. The people at ChangeX have gathered a collection of 'solutions' to common social problems together in one place and made it really easy for you to get involved and make good things happen in your neighbourhood. Whether you want to set up a Coder Dojo , playworks or get involved in Foodcloud- there are many ways you can carry on the important work of being a change maker in your community.

Change X have recently launched the ChangeX100 initiative whereby they are striving to encourage 100 of these solutions in 100 days. Part of that initiative includes 10 new GIY groups being set up within that 100 days. Wow. It's always been our dream to have a GIY group in every town and village in Ireland and beyond. Help us make it happen. If you've been mulling over the idea- now is the time to act. We'll hold your hand and support you every step of the way. The GIY network is strong and inspiring. Become part of the change.

Well worth a look on their site if you aren't familiar and if you can get involved or know someone else who might- don't delay- let's make things happen in the next 100 days. Together we can all achieve more than we can on our own. Have a little look at the video below to really get a flavour for what it's all about.

Last month also saw the grand finale of the Get Ireland Growing Fund with AIB with an inspiring collection of awardees joining us in Airfied to celebrate the amazing achievements of these projects across the country. We produced a lovely video that really gets to the heart of why we do what we do. Enjoy.

And to top it off, we've also put together another 'What to Do this Month' for you to print/email to your group for . Hope it's helpful.

You can find this months edition here.......

Have a great month!

Need help?

We're a sociable bunch here in GIY and nothing pleases us more than to have the chat with as many GIYers as possible. We have an active facebook and twitter page which we use to post daily news, tips and sometimes poke fun at the boss (What Would Michael Do Day!). We love to hear from you, see your pics and answer your questions so don't be shy. If you don't already like us (boo hoo) get liking on and following us on Twitter @giyireland.

We've also started a Facebook GIY Champions group where you can instantly connect with other champions and share ideas and get to know each other better. If you'd like to join the chat- you can find it here

Don't forget you can buy all the things you need for your growing on the GIY shop. We've added loads of new products and have reduced the price on lots of our seeds.

And by buying from us you are also helping us to Get Ireland Growing again. Thanks for all your support.
