To date this year in the County of Cork, over 250 commemorative centenary events, organised by close to 200 community groups, have already taken place. This summer will see hundreds of further such events, particularly between the dates of August 20th and 28th - National Heritage Week. The Theme for Heritage Week this year is One Hundred Years of Heritage, a most fitting perspective, given the year that is in it. Last year in Cork, 2015, over 170 events took place throughout the County of Cork and it is hoped that a similar number and perhaps even more, can take place this year. For community groups and organisations looking to get involved and organise a Heritage Week event, online registration opens at on May 10th. Registration stays open until 19th August 2016 but to ensure inclusion in the National Heritage Week print guide, it is necessary to register by June 10th. The website contains a number of ideas for exciting heritage events and if events are registered by 15th July 2016, organisers will be sent an organiser's toolkit by post.
Many groups this year have undertaken a number of commemorative centenary projects. Heritage Week would be the ideal time for local community groups to host a public event, recapping and reflecting on all that was done. For those seeking to have their event listed in the Cork County Heritage Week Event Guide, please have your event submitted online by July 1st 2016.
