Successful AGM For Cork County Muintir na Tire

 Annette Lane Chairperson of Cork County Federation Muintir na Tire welcomed the large attendance at last nights AGM. She especially welcomed Deputy County Mayor Mr Kevin Conway, newly elected National President of Muintir na Tire Michael Sweeney and Mr. Niall Garvey Chief Executive. She said it gave her  great pleasure to present the 2017 Annual Report which provides the details of the work which Cork County Federation Muintir na Tire progressed during 2016. 
She went on to say 'During 2016 Cork County Federation Muintir na Tire made significant progress in the delivery of our main work programmes. In  community development we continued our supports to Community Councils. Community Councils who continue to  provide stable and dynamic leadership for local Communities.  We will continue to promote Community Councils and support their efforts. We also continue to forge strong links with other groups and agencies as we believe that community work straddles many facets of life, from health to education and the environment.'
She said ' We also contributed to the third County  Mayors Awards for the Community and Voluntary sector. We organised a series of very successful Health Information Seminars during the year in conjunction with HSE Cork North Community Work Department , We also work closely with the Mitchelstown and Fermoy Community Health Networks'
She went on to say 'We also organised a very successful ‘Pride in our Community Amenity’ and the Cork School Garden  competition in conjunction with Cork County Council and Griffins Garden Centre This continues to be very inspirational & reflect the huge voluntary commitment around the county by volunteers, teachers & children'
She thanked her fellow directors, staff, and especially the dedicated members of Community Councils and community groups all over County Cork for the huge contribution they make to their local areas every  year. She Said 'I want to pay tribute to them for their dedication and commitment to maintaining and developing services and facilities in their local areas.'
We would like to thank all those who helped the County Federation during 2016 especially the HSE Community Work Department  Cork North,  Environment Department Cork County Council, Department of Social Protection and all who helped us in any way.    
Mr Kevin Conway deputy Mayor congratulated Muintir on their contribution to rural Ireland and particularly in County Cork and he was particularly impressed by the Cork Schools Garden Competition which is instilling a love of nature and gardening in school children and which will pay huge dividends going forward.  
Newly appointed National President Michael Sweeney congratulated the Cork County Federation on their work for Muintir in Cork County. He said that Muintir na Tire will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of Rural Ireland and he was delighted to announce that new Community Development workers are being appointed soon to supplement the existing Community Alert staff under CEO Niall Garvey.
