Upcoming Events from Conor Nelligan

The month of March is upon us and there is plenty of news from a Heritage perspective.
The Heritage Council’s Community Grant Scheme 2017 is as of today accepting applications and there was wonderful news recently with the Castlemartyr John Saul Appreciation Society receiving honours on the National Stage at the recent Heritage Week Awards.
There is a most wonderful lineup of events for the month of March particularly given that we are now in Seachtain na Gaeilge and about to embark on National Tree Week and the Creative Ireland Programme, will shortly see much activity underway in Cork County.

UPCOMING EVENTS: 

Date/Time: Tuesday 7th March 2017 from 12:00 to 15:00
Event: 
: TREE WEEK - 'Triumph of the Tree' illustrated talk followed by tree planting 
Location: Macroom's new/interim library (opposite town bus station), Macroom, Co. Cork
Additional Information: From 12 noon to 13:00 Ted Cook will deliver a talk entitled 'Triumph of the Tree'. From 1pm - 3pm, participants are invited to plant trees and shrubs in the nearby Macroom Castlegrounds - the Demesne trustees have kindly provided a designated site adjoining the Clubhouse.

: LECTURE - 'The Kilmichael Ambush: a military analysis' 
Location: Independence Museum Kilmurry, Kilmurry, Macroom, Co. Cork
Additional Information: On the subject of Cork's role in Ireland's Revolutionary history, there will be a fantastic talk in Kilmurry on Tuesday March 7th, looking at the famous Kilmichael Ambush, as led by Tom Barry. The talk will provide an expert insight into the military state of play regarding the ambush and will be given by Comdt. Seán A. Murphy (Retd). The event will take place in the Kilmurry Independence Museum and commences at 20:30 - all welcome. .

: Cork County Public Participation Network Information Evenings
Location: 7th (West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen); 8th (Springfort Hall Hotel, Mallow) and 9th (County Hall), Co. Cork
Additional Information: Cork County Council is hosting Information Evenings for the Public Participation Network (PPN). A number of exhibitors will be present each night and the event should be of particular interest to those in the community and voluntary sector, Social Inclusion Sector and Environment Sector. All are welcome to attend and to learn of the benefits of the PPN.

: An Illustrated History of Cork City
Location: COFFA House, Church Street, Cork
Additional Information: Renowned historian Liam Ó hUigín will give a wonderful illustrated talk on the history of Cork City, taking place in COSTA on March 8th 2017. :UCC Food Conference - Past, Present and Future

Additional Information: UCC will host a major food conference over the weekend of March 10th -12th, 2017. The conference, 'Innovation in Irish Food: Past, Present and Future', will bring together food historians, food geographers, food scientists, food writers and food producers and we'd love to see you there.
