Local Community Development Committees for North, South and West Cork have this week announced their combined list of projects from across the county to be awarded funding from the Community Enhancement Programme 2019.
A total of 127 applications were received of which 76 were successful.
The scheme aims to facilitate communities to carry out minor improvements to buildings, minor renovation of community centres, development of community amenities, the purchase of equipment and to carry out improvements to town parks, common areas and energy-saving projects.
The county wide allocation of funding available through this scheme, which comes from the Department of Rural & Community Development, is €160,762.
In addition to the Community Enhancement funding, across the county, a total of 17 Men’s Sheds were allocated funding of €1600 each, 4 in North Cork LCDC, 11 in South Cork and 2 in West Cork with a further allocation of €1600 awarded to a Women’s Shed in Beara – making a total of €28,800 earmarked for ‘Sheds’.
From the €44,136 available to the North Cork Local Community Development Committee Area, 23 projects were awarded funding from the Community Enhancement Programme. These 23 were approved at the LCDC meeting on September 16 and included a €9000 grant to replace windows in Ballindangan Community Hall in the Fermoy Municipal District.
In South Cork LCDC 26 projects successfully applied for Community Enhancement funding to a value of €64,930, with €10,000 awarded to the Carrigaline Community Association for the refurbishment of the Community Hall.
A further 27 projects in West Cork received a share of the €51,702 in the West Cork LCDC area with Bere Island awarded €8,000 towards the enhancement of their community building while the historic Allin Institute building in Bandon is to get €5000 to install double glazing.
Cork County Mayor, Cllr Christopher O’Sullivan congratulated all the successful projects saying
“The Community Enhancement Programme allows the Council to work with and support local communities in identifying and improving facilities and amenities in their areas. Well done to all the community projects that were successful in this year’s applications.”
