Do you have elderly or vulnerable people in your community who may succumb to fire in their homes?
Are there escape routes adequately protected by smoke alarms which will provide them with that extra time to escape and raise the alarm?
Are they aware of how to reduce their exposure to domestic fire?
Would you or members of your group assist in the installation of smoke alarms in liaison with local fire officers?
Cork County Fire Department, in conjunction with the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM), will provide PPN community groups with 10 year battery operated smoke alarms for distribution and installation within elderly and vulnerable resident’s dwellings.
This smoke alarm scheme aims to reach out to vulnerable and elderly residents in the community and provide 10 year battery operated smoke alarms
· Accumulated completed applications forms are to be returned either to Fire & Building Control Department, Cork County Council, County Hall Campus, Carrigrohane Road, Cork or to a Divisional HQ (Mallow, Bantry, Midleton)
· Following assessment by the Senior Fire Officer, the smoke alarms are then distributed and can be collected at the fire station in their local area by a group liaison person.
· Simple to read Fire Safety in the Home Leaflets and installation details are also provided
· Please note that the scheme is set up to work so that forms are submitted together as a local group and not individually. This assists thereafter in the further distribution.
The Fire Department would also be willing to arrange a fire safety talk to groups in their areas if they wished and could arrange to distribute smoke alarms/application forms on the day/night as well then.
If interested in organising a fire safety talk contact: Keelin Cronin - Assistant Fire Officer at fireinfo@corkcoco.ie
Completed forms can then be scanned and emailed to fireinfo@corkcoco.ie.
Your email subject should be Smoke Alarm Scheme 2019 and please address your emails to Keelin Cronin - Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer
Or alternatively you may post your application form to your Divisional Fire Dept. HQ.:
