Heritage Week Exhibitions
Charleville Library
Charleville Heritage Society will be presenting an exhibition on the Historical Figures associated with the town of Charleville and in the formation of the Irish Free State. This exhibition will be open for viewing at Charleville Library from Tuesday 19th August until Saturday 23rd August. The storyboards offer great insight into the lives and works of people such as Eliza Lynch, Eamon De Valera, Archbishop Daniel Mannix and many more.
LHQ Gallery
Road Bowling in Armagh and Cork
The Local Studies Library is delighted to host a fascinating exhibition of photographs (Colin Robins/ Michael Bradley and Joonas Aitonurmi) and books (Cork and Irish Collections) which explore the sport of road bowling in Ireland.
On display in LHQ Gallery on the Carrigrohane Road from August 8th to 27th.
Macroom Library
Heritage Sites and Their Landscapes.
This public display, by Cork County Council, focuses on four important cultural heritage sites in the immediate vicinity of the new N22 Baile Bhuirne to Macroom road, including site descriptions and a record of their topographical and landscape characteristics as pertained prior to the new N22 road development.
The four heritage sites are: The War of Independence ambush site at Cúil na Cathrach, Carrigaphooca Castle and curtilage, the stone circle at Carrigaphooca and the Civil War engagement at Carrigaphooca.
Midleton Library
Midleton as a Commercial Town Exhibition will be displayed at Midleton Library for National Heritage Week.
Skibbereen Library
Skibbereen Library will have a pop-up heritage display in conjunction with the ‘Aughadown in the Olden Days’ exhibition in the Town Hall.
It will feature household, agricultural and societal items, from the pre-electrification period. It will also contain the Irish Tourist Association Topographical and General Survey which was compiled during the 1940s. The survey is a snapshot in time, with information on tourist and civic amenities and it provide a rich source of local history as it records sites of historical and archaeological significance.
In addition, the local folklore and traditions of a particular area were recorded, giving a unique insight into the social and cultural history of Skibbereen, Aughadown, and the surrounding parishes.
Somerville & Ross Book Collection at Skibbereen Library
Skibbereen Library will have a wonderful historical collection of Somerville & Ross books on display for National heritage Week.
