Cork Schools Garden Competition to Promote Upcycling

Dr. Mary Stack of the Environment Directorate of Cork County Council is encouraging County Cork School Primary Schools to enter the  Up-Cycling Art and colour category of Muintir na Tire's Cork School Garden Competition. Schools are encouraged to rethink, repair, refurbish along with reusing & recycling items in this category Schools are also encouraged to use art in the garden to enhance special features and characteristics of the garden. She said schools are so being very creative and coming up with lots of innovative ideas to create their gardens.

Schools working for their Green Flags are encouraged to develop school gardens as a means of pro-actively teaching environmental education.

Schools participating in The Garden Competition will be supporting the biodiversity module of the Green Flag and Cork County Council’s Biodiversity Plan.

Green Flag Program : 90% of Cork schools are participating in Green Flag programme. Flags for Litter & Waste , water & energy conservation, biodiversity & travel have been awarded.

All schools can be sent copies of a Water Conservation Guide by Dr. Mary Stack Environmental Awareness Officer and our school’s Biodiversity guide by Conor Neligan, Conservation Officer.
