Cork County Council Welcomes Significant Funding Boost Under New Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund

Cork County Council has welcomed the announcement by James Browne TD, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, of successful projects across County Cork under Round 1 of the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, which will support the delivery of transformative regeneration initiatives in Carrigaline, Carrigtwohill, Clonakilty, Cobh, Mallow and Midleton.

The funding forms part of a national investment programme worth up to €409 million aimed at revitalising town and city centres, supporting the Government's Town Centre First policy and delivering sustainable regeneration projects that enhance public spaces, community facilities and economic opportunities. Cork County Council secured approval for six projects, representing potential investment of almost €19 million in communities across the county.

The successful Cork County Council projects are:

  • Cobh Public Realm Regeneration Phase 1: €7.5 million
  • Mallow Town Hall Theatre Regeneration Project: €7.5 million
  • Carrigaline Public Realm and Waterfront Development Phase 1: €3.5 million
  • Proposed Masterplan for Carrigtwohill Town Centre: €150,000
  • Kent Street Regeneration, Clonakilty, Phase 1: €150,000
  • Midleton Cultural and Civic Centre: €150,000


Following the announcement, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage will engage with local authorities on the next steps required to advance the approved projects and achieve the targets set out under the programme.
