Cobh Tourism have won
Best Tourism Project Award at the 12th Annual Muintir na Tire Pride
in our Community Awards held in Oriel House Ballincollig.
Their project was erection of a life size bronze statue of
Irelands greatest ever athlete Sonia O Sullivan in her hometown of Cobh.
Mayor of County Cork
Councillor Seamus McGrath congratulated them and said that it was great to see
the effort being put in by them and other community groups in developing
locally-based Amenity/ Projects which are of long-term benefit to their local
community all over County Cork’
Ms Annette Lane of Cork
County Federation Muintir ná Tíre said these projects highlight the important
link between our surroundings and our quality of life. It is no co-incidence he
said that people travel the length and breadth of the county, visiting beauty
spots – beautiful scenery which lifts their spirits and hearts. The impact that
amenity projects developed are enormous she added
She thanked the County
Mayor Seamus McGrath and Cork County Council for providing support for all of
the groups in bringing this principle home.
He said these projects brighten up communities and enhance the natural
beauty of the surroundings in which we live as well as attracting tourists
