Commemoration of Tomás MacCurtain

Date/Time: Wednesday 20th March 2019 at 20:00
Event:
Public Meeting - Commemoration of Tomás MacCurtain
Location: G1 Lecture Theatre, Kane Building, U.C.C. Cork

Additional Information: On 20th March 2020 there will be a large commemoration to remember the centenary of the Death of Cork Lord Mayor and Mourneabbey man, Tomás MacCurtain. His killing was one of the most significant and shocking incidents of the Irish War of Independence, and indeed one of the most important in the entire history of Cork. On Wednesday March 20th 2019 a meeting will be held to discuss ways in which Tomás MacCurtain can be commemorated in his centenary and it is hoped that this meeting, by raising the profile of the forthcoming centenary, will encourage interested parties to become involved in planning events to mark same. U.C.C. is hoping that the meeting will bring a diverse, representative range of local institutions and individuals on board the commemorative process, and ensure that in 2020 a knowledge of the man, and former First Citizen of the city, and his contribution to the life of the rebel city and county will be widely dispersed among Corkonians locally, nationally and internationally. The meeting begins at 8pm in the G1 lecture theatre of the Kane Building on the main UCC campus and it is anticipated that it will have finished by 10pm the latest. All most welcome to attend.
