Concerts & Samhain themed workshops for older adults

 Please find attached a press release announcing Cork Cultural Companions’ exciting programme of events, celebrating memory, storytelling, music, and creativity across Cork City and County.

Highlights include:

  • Down Memory Lane – a festive concert series with live music and nostalgia taking place in Mayfield, Mallow, Midleton and Kilworth.

  • Workshops of Memory, Story & Samhain – interactive, reflective, and creative sessions for older adults 50+ in Cork City

  • At Your Age?! – a new play co-written by our members, exploring friendship, ageing, and self-expression, performed by the Schull Drama Group in Bantry in November.

Cork Cultural Companions Celebrate Story, Song and Samhain
Music, memories, theatre and creativity light up Cork this November!
Cork Cultural Companions are bringing creativity and connection to communities across
Cork this November with an exciting line-up of events celebrating memory, storytelling and
the joy of shared experiences.

From a festive Down Memory Lane concert series to hands-on workshops inspired by
Samhain, and the premiere of a brand-new play At Your Age, the season invites everyone to
come together for music, laughter and meaningful moments.
Down Memory Lane – A Cork Cultural Companions Christmas Celebration
A heart-warming afternoon of nostalgia, laughter and live music led by Linda Kenny, joined
by Conor O’Shea (The Loungeman), Pakie O’Callaghan, and Maurice Healy.
Mayfield Library – Wednesday 26 November, 2pm
Also touring Kilworth, Mallow, and Midleton.

Workshops of Memory, Story & Samhain
Ceramic Journeys: The Labyrinth & Samhain. Nov 12, 2pm, Blackpool. Create with clay in a
reflective, hands-on workshop.
Cuardíocht. Ancestral Storytelling Ceremony. Nov 14, 2pm Civic Trust House, Cork City
Join Paddy Doyle for an afternoon of story, song and remembrance inspired by tradition.
Life Writing Workshop: Reflections of Samhain. Nov 18, 1.30–3.30pm, Cork City Library
Explore memory, change and reflection through life writing.
Workshops are free but spaces are limited so early booking is advised. Supported by Cork
City Council Creative Communities funding.
At Your Age?! Performance
Bantry Library – Saturday 22 November, 2pm
Exploring the realities of aging with wit and insight, At Your Age is a script co-developed by
Cultural Companions members with Elaine Desmond of UCC, and recently workshopped
with Karen Minihan of Play Acting Theatre. The script will be brought to life by the Schull
Drama Group in Bantry Library. All welcome
Supported by Cork County Arts Office and the Cork County Age Friendly Office, the play
explores friendship, ageing and finding one’s voice, with humour, honesty and heart.
“With winter evenings drawing in, this season is all about finding warmth in creativity and
connection,” said Tara O Donoghue, Coordinator of Cork Cultural Companions. “From
stories and songs that spark fond memories to fresh, exciting work from our members, our
events offer a bright hearth in the cold months. Everyone is welcome”

Cultural Companions, an Age & Opportunity Arts initiative from Muintir na Tíre, brings older
people together through shared cultural experiences across Cork City and County,
supported by the HSE and Cork City & County Councils.
